Ceres enters Pisces Sunday @ 5:52 PM, EST, 7th House.

This Roman goddess was originally known to the ancient Greeks as Demeter. Her name was derived from da meter, meaning "Earth Mother". She is the sister of goddesses Vesta, hearth and home, and Juno, committed relationships.

As goddess of agriculture and the harvest, Ceres symbolized the cultivated, fertile soil that fed and provided for humanity. One of the greatest ancient myths involves the daughter of Ceres, Kore/Persephone's abduction by Hades/Pluto to the underworld. Cere's loss of her daughter became a lesson of loss and return that was re-enacted for roughly 2,000 years as the initiation rites of the Eleusinian Mysteries.

In an act of rage against her brother, Zeus, who had approved of Hade's abduction of Persephone, Ceres prevented the ripening of crops so that they withered in rot in the soil, on their vines, stalks, and branches. If she must live without her daughter, then humanity would suffer without sustenance, symbolized by winter.

Realizing his defeat, Zeus eventually compromised to allow Persephone to return to her mother in the spring of each year and remain through summer. Thus, spring symbolizes the lifting of Ceres' curse upon the earth. The soil became rich and fertilized once again, and fruits were bountiful. Persephone's return to Pluto is symbolized by autumn, when death begins to ripen into winter.

According to C.G. Jung, "To enter Ceres mean to be pursued, to be robbed, to be raped, to fail to understand, to rage and grieve, but then to get everything back and be born again." He believed that the function of mother in psychology governs a number of qualities that cannot be contained to just one zodiac sign, and attributes Ceres functions best in Cancer, Taurus-Scorpio, and Virgo.

Ceres' aspects to the planets describe how the nurturing/mothering function may be integrated with other areas of the personality. Harmonious aspects in a transit or natal chart indicate easy blending while stressful aspects signify potential conflicts between nurturing needs and individual requirements. Balancing these two polarities eliminates the need for stress as a motivational factor.

Cere's will enter Pisces square to Sedna 00°GEM06' and Juno 00°SAG29'. Conversely, Juno sits opposite Sedna 00°22', forming a T-square. This is significant, particularly on the critical 00° ( referred to as the Ingress ) which symbolizes the beginning of an astrological season or a planet’s transit through a sign.

Because this degree is the beginning, the zodiac signs the planets enter is VERY felt here. In this case, we have Pluto in Aquarius, Juno in Sagittarius, and Ceres in Pisces on the 00°; therefore, the traits of Aquarius ( imagination ), Sagittarius ( visualization ), and Pisces ( understanding ) will be intensified.

The square aspect represents a challenge, dynamic tension, turning point, or accomplishment. The potential of any chart lies in its squares and if you don't understand them, they can appear as stumbling blocks; however, understanding them enables us to construct steppingstones based on decision followed by action.

Aquarius is a fixed sign; therefore, the action is slow and deliberate, while mutable Sagittarius and Pisces' actions will be variable depending on the influences of the former fixed signs. Therefore, we can assume that Ceres entering mutable Pisces will vary her action on understanding based on the impact of Pluto in Aquarius' imagination/revelation and Sagittarius' unifying vision.

Steppingstones or building blocks are established when our attention is focused on actions that produce long term results aligning with our visions.

Stumbling blocks will occur if we allow our thoughts to travel to self-doubt or if fear paralyzes us from making positive choices. Indecisiveness facilitates not only procrastination but a sinking ship of dreams.

These aspects will continue well into the second week of March and will be followed by a square to Jupiter in Gemini, where our forward movement and resolve will be tested. This is yet another opportunity to expand our interests through partnerships, dedication to hard work, and structural organization that brings about initial results that boost our self-confidence and validate our worth.

The opposition between Juno and Sedna emphasizes the need to unify energetic polarities involving committed relationships and more advanced sensory perceptions rather than traditional methods. It's time to step out of the box and into our dreams.

Ceres in the positive characteristics of Pisces combines the nurturing aspect with that of compassion, understanding, intuitive empathy, and forward movement should we utilize the power of the aforementioned aspects. Conversely, the "angry mother" aspect of Ceres can emerge through the negative characteristics of Pisces as melancholy, pessimism, emotional inhibition, and indolence.

The "Great Mother" in Pisces presents a wonderful opportunity to nurture our own minds to achieve spiritual heights in character and goals.
