Poetry Contest

Write a poem inspired by a sentimental piece of jewellery
Good evening

For this poem I would like you to write a poem inspired by a sentimental piece of jewellery.

Who owned it?
What does it make you feel?
Does it bring you joy?
Maybe you resent it now?

Tell us its story.

For this contest I’m looking for interesting narratives and people that think outside the box.

The brooch.

A pearl and enamel brooch
Especially designed and made
For my beloved
While I was on a business trip
To Hong Kong.
It is on the plane on the way back
That I learned of the terrible car crash
And the  death of my dear Lisbeth.
The brooch now stands on my desk
Encased in a navy blue velvet frame.

PLASTIC PEARLS AND ALL

all her jewels
were glass
and rings
would turn a finger green
but goddamn
if she wasn't a cookie
in that dress,
those heels
clicking up the aisle
on sunday morning
and me and sissy in tow,
our troubles
tucked in tight
lest somebody see

The necklace

It was at a brocante
Near Sacré-Coeur in Paris
One kiosk among dozens
This one with many objects of the seas.
Trinkets, mostly.
But that lovely necklace
Caught my attention.
Stones of different colors
As if collected directly from the seashore
And assembled with love,
Stones speaking of long and daring voyages,
Of pirates and corsairs,
Of freedom and the perils of the high seas.
A perfect gift for my lady friend,
The gutsiest woman of all.
