Poetry Contest

New Member of the Month Feature!

Welcome to "New Member of the Month"!

You have 3 weeks to nominate your favorite poems from a NEW DUP poet - someone who has been a member for no more than six months.

To locate New Members simply click on 'Poems' > *Latest Poems > Sort Poems > New Members!

Please note the following guidelines when making nominations:

1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme.  This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.

2. Until this comp is established, there is no limit to nominations; however, you can't nominate more than one poem per individual new member.  *****

3. No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!

4. Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.

5. Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.

6. One win per member per calendar year ( 12 months ).

7. All nominators should notify their nominees of nominations.

8.  PLEASE DON’T NOMINATE RECENT WINNERS ( see list below )

Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me. I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.

Nomination Duration is 3 weeks followed by a week of site voting!

Perpetual Spring

I awoke on a dewy morning, still enclosed,
shuddering and fearful of nature's breath.
Yet rain and breezes cooled my stems
and brought upon a refreshing caress
to open the blooms I deemed unsightly.
And no longer desiring a life of enclosure,
I turned at last to face the sun,
to wash my face with light and air,
and stand amongst the breathing flora
as a creature of boundless radiance,
refusing to be muted by the shade of trees,
nor to be trampled by careless feet,
alive at last in my perpetual Spring.

#2

In tiny facts,
preferred events
Her truth was an agenda
She was more a lawyer than a lover
And our love more like a trial

Success

Success

Maybe it begins with that little nod
or perhaps with shaking another's hand.
Smiles, laughter, clinking of drinks.
It all meets with the demand.

Maybe it's in the golf games
or that promotion destined to be.
“You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours,”
just pretend you did not see.

Or maybe it's the late hours working.
Those calls, “I won't be coming home.”
Set the family aside on the back burner
where little Billy's deer and antelope roam.

All those vacations, the status the things!
They'll make up for those moments lost.
Product and demand....demand....DEMAND!
It's all relative and it's worth the cost.

Maybe it's the socials, the parties, the dinners.
Maybe it's the alcohol that gets you through life.
Or maybe that affair? Maybe, but whose?
Maybe you just now learned of your wife's.

Your son wants nothing to do with you.
You've lost it all except for those things.
You're an empty shell of a miserable man.
Let's drink to what that success brings. (clink!)

Moonlit Midnight Meditation

Do you see the lapping of the ocean?
the way it wades with unhurried motion?
did you bring the spirits?
and did you bring the potions?
did you take the back roads,
to avoid all of the commotion?
I've never really came that way,
but now that we're here
I have some things to say...
what was it like,
midnight in May,
on long sparse roads
beneath the moon's rays?
and how do you feel
by the salt and the sea?
oh, my fearful, worried friend,
who feels anything but free
the wind,
does it soothe?
do the stars seem like fate?
does the ground feel secure?
and on your back, in ocean waves,
is that where you meditate?
I know the days are long and lonely and grim
but that's why we're here,
to float, sing and swim!
our next stop will be mossy,
bright, and soft green
and in shut eyed mindful moments
all things are seen

The Quarantine Poem

Queen Mary had felt the same way
All alone
Trapped,
In Fotheringay
She knew the same moon
She knew the cherries
And markets and crowds
And the water-warped tune
She knew the stroke of a brush
a clock
Or of love
Calcified, fossilized
Where does she dream of?
I’d bet that its green
Like lowlands or shores
Close to the masses
No locks and no doors
Where people float through
They come and they go
Stay for supper then sleep
They tell her what they know
Of freedom and wind
Of tall Osage trees
How crows play in storms
When they dance on the breeze
She’d listen and nod
And even interject
But when dawn breaks anew
She’d know that they’ve left

Ugly

Beautiful are those and thought of godly origin
what of the dark and strange forgotten
perfection consumes a misguided truth
all things wither and turn to grey

Mannequins parade as people swoon
empty heads and plastic hearts
fallacious reflections
draped in woven aristocracy

Lovely the animal that turns away heads
not all divine gets the suns grace
enchanted beings are seldom seen
for what they truly are

Marvelous it is to be born from fire
to exist because of pressure
through seas of dirt and stone
a seedling sprouts from mud

Woke are they who persevere
love is not a condition based on bias
the inherent rights of all earths creatures
God loves all ugly is a beautiful truth

Call To Adventure

when life called at my door
and I saw the Unicorn,
saddled and ready,
I knew it was time
to leave the old
wounds
some never heal
no matter how magic a cure.
Do
not
grant
habits,
trauma,
the past,
or a secret,
power over you
or your story,

she said,
don’t let them define
your present or future,
karma or life.

I watched the bars of my cage
fade into the shadows
of the espalier hedge
and through the lattice the dawn
golden and rose
as I straddled two worlds.

I will wait for a free version of a book on a freebooks or find an electronic version for my friends. I recently found a cool review Romeo and Juliet https://freebooksummary.com/romeo-and-juliet-compare-and-contrast-to-pyramus-and-thisbe-71845 FreebookSummary of the classic book Romeo and Juliet. This is a phenomenal find.
