911 conspiracies;
I think 911 conspiracies are racist and apologist. Firstly they are racist in that they often say things like "do you really think a rag wearing got herder...."
Osama Bin Laden was a civil engineer trained at a very good university, and a member of a family that owns one of the largest construction companies in the world. Characterising him as a cultural stereotype of being an Afghani hillbilly is straight out racist. I have no doubt if I gave one of my engineers the task of putting a plan together to destroy some infrastructure, with a few million dollars a team of fanatics ready to die to do it, they would do a fine job.
Second, making the whole thing a insider plot is awfully convenient because it allows westerners to ignore 2500 years (look it up) of western intervention and political manipulation in arab countries, and especially Afghanistan. It allows you to ignore that whole history of actions that ignored or subverted the human rights of these people, allows you to somehow make that irrelevant. It is not irrelevant. If I had grown up steeped in 2500 years of western intervention, and especially the last 200 years where the US, england and Russia have continually coveted the strategic importance of the country (Afghanistan) and tried to asset rule over it by force I'd be pretty angry, and with enough money and training I too might just put a plan together to hit them on their home turf, like they had been doing to my people.
911 conspiracies ignore all that pain and death, those generations of degradation and horror, those attempted conquests and political takeovers, and decide to look instead internally to their own issues. This is exactly the attitude that caused all that suffering, by failing to think of them as anything other than pawns in some larger western game.
There is a great book about the last 2000 years of Afghani people, and it leaves me with nothing but disgust for the west, and an unwavering admiration for the hardiness and resolve of the Afghani people to endure and endure and endure.
Put a capable and determined engineer and leader in that fuck-up and you might just get planes flying in to buildings.
(you might then also read on the 500 years before christ....Afghanistan has always been strategically important as a gateway to India, and has suffered for it. The people there have a loooong history of injustices, and a cultural tradition of not forgetting or forgiving.
Read also the plan that Lawrence of Arabia put together at the end of world war 2 to give sovereignty to the Arabic desert, as was promised in return for them the fight the Turks. They showed astounding courage and resilience, as they believed they were fighting for their sovereignty. Lawrence's plan was ignored, the promise broken and the land carved up to suit the needs of western powers. That and the creation of Israel at the same time are the basis for the conflicts you see today.
