Poetry Contest Description
write a poem - 3 to 30 lines - using as many book titles as work for your poem
are you a stephen king fan or a zane grey aficionado? a sucker for syfy/sci-fi, or getting down with the detectives? everything from Paper Tiger to Day After Tomorrow kinda bag-grabber?
whatever floats your mind, grab yourself some titles and see what they inspire.
the winner's the poem i think best uses the titles to make the best poem, and not specifically how many titles you use--though the trickiest part of the exercise is using as many as feasible without ruining the poem.
any length between 3 and 30 lines, enter as many poems as you like, any style {edit: the 30 lines isn't a deal-breaker - if your poem needs the extra space, go for it, as the poem's what counts - i simply thought 30 lines would be easier for readers and writers alike}
forgot sumthin' really really really important:
all those book titles? please make sure you credit each and every one of them after your poem. it's the right thing to do
what, you're still here? get writing!

The voting works according to your wishes. You can select a winner ( which is the preference of the majority of DU poets who participated in a recent poll regarding Public Vote vs. the host/ess selecting a winner); or, you can request a public vote once the competition has ended.

We always participate in our own comps with non-entries, and many host/esses do post an example themselves. We also select a winner. Sometimes we have to call in a third party to break a tie - but we git'r done.

thanks, edited the OP to reflect that i'll make the decision, then.
so for anyone wondering quite what this is all gonna look like, here's an excerpt from my poem
I Was Told There'd Be Cake
in The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul,
but it's just Another Bullshit Night in Suck City,
Trainspotting in a Brave New World,
contemplating The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake.
newp, you don't have to do the caps thingy, either.

Title of this write and all the emphasis on titles in this write are the works of my personal Fave, Thee Queen of Suspense, Mary Higgins Clark. She was and has been my fictional savior for many years...

I'll need to think on this so many authors so many great books and oh the story one could tell is there a penalty for going over 30 lines and do have to give reference credit per title or can i just shout out authors at the end

thankyou, mysteriouslady, for kicking off this competition! i hope you had fun writing this piece
howlingheart: i set 30 lines really more as a way to make things easier for both reader and writer, but i'll not whack-a-mole you for going over the limit. i'll adjust the op to reflect that.
as to credits, what i did was to write the piece and then credit every title below, as shown here for The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things
credits:
The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things by Carolyn Mackler
working title: John Dies at the End by David Wong
As I Lay Dying,
by William Faulkner
it's Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
by John Berendt
and Something Wicked This Way Comes
by Maurice Sendak
Where the Wild Things Are:
by Ray Bradbury
the plethora of titles out there can be daunting! if you want to set a theme (as in zane grey titles, f'rinstance) i'd just google them as a list and go from there; what i did was google 'great book titles' and chose from '100 great book titles' - to go in without any limitations would have stopped me in my tracks before i even started!
looking forward to what you bring!

Art Of War
Oh brave new world
stolen in 1984
Do androids dream of electric sheep
Does a red pill
compliment chicken soup for the soul
Are we god emperor
Dreaming separate reality
Did we crawl from beneath the overcoat
just to kill a mocking bird
all in the name of war and peace
