Poetry Contest

What do you like about yourself? What would you change?

Write one poem describing either what you like about yourself (physical traits and/or personality), or what you wish you were like. This is a very personal competition, and I image it'll provoke raw emotions, so think carefully before joining. I want to know the genuine "you".

If you want to read an example, check out my poem with the same title on my profile.

Feel free to message me if you have any question.

What I Am

I am the smile dangling from the sunlight mascarading the mask of voodoo upon the gloom.
If beauty had a name it would sound from the tongue as wine and flowers taking the breath away.

If ever there was a place to tend the heart it be beside the pieces of mine in my chest.
I am not much for simplicity, eager for excitement.

There is a strength amid the scars that hide beneath this flesh.
Rain to spill from the skies to your feet, I am one of the wonders born to the world, but struggling to be happy.

I am more than an object of affection to toss tired, lonely sheets.
I am the result of lessons taught and wounds that cut the soul deep.

I do not belong... yet somehow I fit in this panoromic pieced together view.
Kalideoscope heart, soul branded to set sail from one place to the next.

What is next?

I am sure....
I am pieces of glass that bleed but also the artistic hand that tends to every shard.

To love
Myself
I must first try
to understand
Myself
to begin
with faltering steps
to look within
Myself
to strip away
the pretence
of being
Myself
to finally see
what it means
to be
Myself

Who I Am

Who am I to tell you who I am?

I am a daughter with a sacred ring
I am a son of the living king

I am the life animating bones
I am the skin in exotic tones

I am the breath of a better way
I am the sun of a brighter ray
I am a child, a prince, an heir
I have a crown, and beauty faire

I am the rhyme, without a scheme
I am the stitching without the seam
I am the wind; although you hear it
Truly fills my spirit

I am the voice in the wilderness call
I am the voice of the one in the hall
I am the one that appears to the One
I am the victory already won

Oxymoron Me

What I like about my self:

That I'm so drama free:

No arrests
No alimony
No tax liens
No enemies
No bankruptcy
No paternity tests
No restraining orders
Most important, no STDs

What I'd like to change about myself

That I'm so damn boring:

I mean come on!
Not even one genital wart?
How damn boring can I get?

I Love

I could not live without, flashes
of memories
that made me feel as if Creation
had a purpose, and
that I was destined
to be a part of it.

I became a prayer when
John Lennon died, and
I could do nothing but prostrate myself
when the Towers came down.

I traversed time, in Grandmother’s
fits of dementia, and
escorted her to pre-war years, my
heart bleeding out through my eyes
at the realization of how thin
the veil between worlds, is.

I love that snowflakes, can
camouflage themselves in my hair, shy
behind the strands of white
all earned because of the workings of the mind.

I love that I can hope, again
and expect more than just servitude
and empty crystal balls.

I do not wish to stay here, past
my appointed time, though
I am not done feeling life
as strongly as I have relished
death.

What a deep and powerful poem, MadameLavender. I'm quite surprised at the emotional reaction I got while reading it, but that proves the ingenuity of your poem.

Well done!

Invisible Sweat

Being young forever is how I stubbornly imagine things.
Mind taunts me to learn daily.
Things weigh heavy on the body forcing it to mold.

bubble

your love was bubble
i was in trouble by your bubble

it floats around
so thin
so light
that once being touched
it can be broken easily
maybe im a bit silly
taking care of your bubble love

small mistake
i can lose you
easily
like im beinng silly
about your love
