Anatomy of Loss
Postlude
It was once written
that there was nothing new
under the sun, no fresh thing
that hadn't yet been done
The reality of such a sentence
spins eternally from reference
we won't encounter twice
Instead, we yearn to grow, learn
what our alternate reality already knows
as it cultivates our knowledge now;
a parallel split of atomic energy
from a singular Source of Being
expanding thick as undergrowth
That Known Being residing amid
our Living waters makes Us human;
the Unknown afterlife (w)hol(l)y Spiritual
We come to realize through eons
that Loss is just a term, a contrast
of desire, possessive expectation;
a false illusion tempting doubt
We evolve deeper into ourselves
by leaving it all behind in Death;
our roots reaching toward Truth
. . . an inch at a time during each birth;
those many manifested Lifeforms
we willingly choose to experience
And that, Dear Reader, is scarecely

30 Days and Nights
we wandered through
the playing field of verse--
dodging mines of cliche
short-changed words;
those unworthy offerings
resulting from utter laziness
The giants are appeased;
poetry was a priority. . .
as it should've been
No more late night excuses
encompassing fatigue
Gone were the days
that housed no poetry
Nomadic were we
wandering in the dessert
seeking a country of accomplishment
Now we rest, bask deservedly
in the spoils of victory
contemplating tomorrow
how much editing it will bring
with the memory of knowing
you had it in you all along
From this day forth
you can continue despite doubt
when you refuse to give up
And we Veterans of the trade
who've weathered the arid heat
many, many years. . .?
You're the very inspiration
that urged Us on
toward our own destination
You are the fuel
for NaPoWriMo's engine

I keel’ed over,
Knock’d out, shock’d,
Once it hit me—
Another year
Another “dollar”,
My system, spent;
Worthy investment
In dedication.
Another NaPo’s
Come and gone,
Though unlike any
Road this poet’s done.
I crash’d and burn’d,
On my feet & then
To bed all day,
Perchance to sleep.
No phone no dreams
Short-circuited.
Middle o’ the night,
I shuffle over
Blurry-eyed
In my slippers
To thank
The powers-that-be,
In my dressing gown,
The unique
Opportunity
Unlike no other
I’d completed in
The NaPo before:
Respectfully bow,
We send up a cheer

The #1 Universal feedback we received after NaPo 2017 from participants was that they didn’t know they had it in them! Of course, they did! And Team 2018 did too - several pariticpants that fell behind absolutely refused to call it quits, rallied and came back strong to finish with everyone else on schedule!
