Poetry Contest

Nominate your favorite poem by a DUP artist for December recognition on DUP FaceBook.
Greetings, Fellow Poets!  It's time for our "Poem of the Month" to be featured in the DUP 'Poem of the Month Hall of Fame' and on the official facebook page for December 2017.

You have three weeks nominate no more than two of you favorite poems of another DUP poet!

Please note the following when making nominations:

1. Self nominations are not accepted. The great majority of the competitions here are about spotlighting one's own work on a particular topic or theme.  This is a chance to nominate that poem that you wish you had written but some other great talent here beat you to it.

2. Please limit your nominations to TWO poems. You can nominate a single poem for two different poets; but the nomination maximum remains at TWO per nominee (no matter how many pseudonyms they have)  The majority of competitions on DUP cap nominations at one or two poems so there's no need to go beyond that.

No DUPLICATES. If someone nominates the same poem the entry will be deleted. If you like it that much wait and vote for it!

Any genre except erotica or pornography. This is a Facebook feature and we must adhere to their guidelines.

BIG CHANGE:

Previous Poem of the Month Hall of Fame members CAN BE NOMINATED ... but a poet may only win once in the time period from November 2017 - December 2018.

Simply put: We want to see a cross section of writers acknowledged.

Any member who is banned or disables their account PRIOR to the win will be automatically disqualified.

Any nominated member who wishes to opt out of the competition may do so by messaging me ( Poem-Worm ). I will contact the person who nominated you and request an alternate nomination.

Nomination Duration is three weeks followed by a week of site voting!

The Nights that Blackened my Soul, The Days That Burned my Eyes

I broke the back bone of darkness,.
When I was lost in a chemical abyss,

I walked in sunlight so impure it destroyed my vision,.
Wishing for another passing of the seasons,.

We found the canyons in the distance,.
Yet we walked into them with grave consequence,

Climbed out finger by bloodied finger,.
Escaping into the desert where delusions still linger,.

The poisons drip from within the crevices,.
Controlled by strong handed vices,.

We struggle to send them forth to the endless night sky,.
Where I desire to lay to rest my lie,.

We must cease fortune within the darkened day,.
We must ripe the world with our new form of decay,.

The light shines in the holes of evil,.
Novas burst from hearts of the cynical,.

Embrace the world's flames,.
Walk forth without shame,.

For the life you reap is the life you give,.
Harvest the crust from your sleeping eyes and live,.

When will we see life stop from passing us by,.
And become at peace, my friend, you and I??>?>?>?

When I wasn't, was I nothing?

I do not remember when I wasn't

What I am doing right this instant or that instant a minute ago, or last month, or even next month, is nothing more than killing time, waiting for this question to be answered. And it matters not how any of us kill this time, it can be spent on your IPod texting friends, out in the yard playing with your children or watching your favorite television program. It can be sitting in a doctor's office while awaiting your turn, though at these times I feel we're killing time by killing time. However we chose to kill time while being in a state of consciousness is but a matter of choice. Theories abound in regards to this question. Some say they have found the answer, but I argue perhaps they have found their answer, but not mine. Some claim they've been there and back, yet they have failed to prove this to be true, at least to my accepting of it.

If you have read this far and you're thinking, I'm wasting time reading this, then here's something else to kill time thinking about. Wasting time is a misnomer. One can not waste time. Just because you have spent your portion of time doing something you felt could have been spent doing something else is not wasting time. Everything on this earth, in this galaxy and beyond shares the same moment in time. I used this time writing this. To me it was not wasted. We each used it as our way to kill time, me perhaps more foolish than you.

Perhaps I'll sit down, open a beer, or have a glass of wine while I reread what I have typed here, checking for mistakes or editing it's content. Just another way for me to kill more time.

I have now reached the point in my life that I no longer fear death, and I say this with as much honesty as I am capable. It is the way death comes to me that I fear in some ways, what I have left behind unfinished and my loved ones' fate once I am gone. The first two I have some control over, even the latter to some extent. But, the fact of being dead does not scare me. In my mind being dead can be no worse than a dreamless sleep from which I may or may not ever awaken.

My deepest fear is when the time comes for my answers to be revealed and I will once know is: Will I even remember the question.

An ode for Embers

You
Fragile
And
Wonderfully broken thing
Are completely unaware
Of the fires
The embers of your vulnerability
Will spread

More often than not
The most beautiful
And
Inspiring things
Are the broken:
For the sky does crack
In order to grant rain
And
The earth does quake
In order to stretch its reach
As the heart does break
In order to make room
For the splendars
Of feeling
Something

Let the demands
Of a hidden
And
Intact heart
Fall to waist
As YOU
Raise your sleeve
In the light of your fire
To reveal
The beautiful
And
Broken heart
That beats ever-strong
All the while
Allowing your embers
To burn down
Paper-towns
And awaken
Paper-people

Embrace your broken
For it is beautiful
And
Embrace your embers
For they will cast a light
