Poetry Contest

but what about their victims?
write a poem to or about a victim of a serial killer

-only one entry, must be new

-title it with the victim's full name

-must be an actual case, but can have happened anytime in recorded history.

-any style is fine, try and pick a victim maybe you could connect with, or have been fascinated by in the past.

-act as if your poem will be hanging on their family's fridge, so be kind, the only thing i will not tolerate is the bashing of victims, but you all seem like a nice lot, so i'm not really worried about that, i'm just saying...

and this is the part where i tell you to have fun, but really don't, because these kinds of things suck =/.

Christine Taylor (What Cuts, it's Spoken too.)

The handle,
gleaming.
Under the fluorescent light.
The base of the blade,
stained
in crimson red.
Its point,
the rest of its edge
and the centre
of the knife,
buried in her heart.
The Vic,
her name was Christine.
She's been renamed
Victim Number 3.

Her forearms hanging
over the edge of the bath.
the water dripping
from her
blue-black finger nails,
well and truly dead.
"We're finished in here"
Yeah, Johnno.
She's finished.
"Don't get smart, Marcus.
have a word
with her kid."
Leaving the forensics
to their spoils

"Hey Son,
you hid in the Oven?"
He told me 'yeah'
the boy was scared shitless.
"I'm sorry, son."
My forced attempt
to comfort a
Twelve year old boy.
He said to me
'Why do people say that?
That they're sorry.
You're not sorry,
you should say suck shit
that your mum is dead.'
The kid made his point
he made it
very well.
Not a damn word
held meaning.
I had a job to do.

“Kathy Kleiner: Remembering Sisters”
http://floridamemory.com/fpc/general/n044071.jpg
I have no real need
to elaborate
on the gore,
the world is
full of enough woe,
descriptions of
his evil-deeds
are irrelevant.
I still fight tears
thinking about that year,
that frightful-event
that now seems
so long ago.
I continue to
pray for
my Chi-O sisters,
Lisa and Margaret
(and Cheryl, too),
who never
had a chance.
And I say,
live your lives
to the fullest,
each and every day,
stay vigilant,
the blow could come
from even your neighbor.
And please know,
I carry on for them,
with a pain in my jaw,
bite-mark scars,
painful reminders
of the
diseased-things
that go
bump in the night.

"Would you like to come out to my ranch and ride the ponies?" - Gordon Northcott

Momma's groceries
always happen on a wednesday.

We walk in that dry heat
to the store,
her hand in mine-
sometimes we even see the folks
riding on their ponies-
all shapes, all sizes;
I sure love how they run.

Horses are my favourite animal!
Momma always says
that when I'm ten
she'll take me down past the lake
and let me ride one;
I'll pat his big ol' head
thank him for his time.

And would you know,
some nice man in the grocery store
said he'd let me ride one today!
says he's got a ranch outta town,
big fields of horses,
chickens too.
Must be nice to have everything.

I saw him today with another kid
in his car; his nephew, so he said.
Momma had sent him to get me
"time to ride the ponies" He said
I was so excited,
I couldn't sit still.

Gordon says
we're sleeping out tonight,
together in the barn,
and if I'm good, do what he says,
more boys will come to play with us.
Sanford is the most excited
he always does what he's told.

I wonder if Momma misses me;
I sure can't wait to tell her
I patted his big ol' head.

Season of Sacrifice (for Trisha Meili and the Central Park Five)

I heard the usual warnings of my mother
as I headed out
Be careful
But I was young
Knew how to take care of myself
Indestructible
Untouchable
Confident
Me

There were the usual nods and greetings
To those I knew as I made my way into the park
I could smell the freshly turned earth as I entered
Last thing I'd truly remember of that night with joy
This was the season of rebirth
So a crucifixion was needed first
A sacrifice, to find resurrection

They said there was blood everywhere
Beaten nearly to death
No memory of it at all
Just whispers of the  stench of stolen dignity
permeating that of pine and elm

My mother cried, Not my baby

Justice was demanded
My mother cried, Why my baby?

Confessions of the sacrilege
How's my baby?

No true witnesses of my blood letting and tears
Save
My
Baby

Convicted and sentenced were the silhouettes of demons
Then came the true darkness to shed light
Matias Reyes

He
Had raped her
He
Had beaten her, left her for dead
As he'd done before

He had slit the throat of not just one lamb that night
because that's not what butchers do
Five were sacrificed
so that he might feast on one

Snow Town Barrels

Eight bodies, six plastic barrels
total body count 12
A deep hatred of paedophiles and homosexuals
fueled these serial killers rage
Picked as easy targets
social security and bank details were obtained
the murderers impersonated the victims
A devilish plot to keep collecting dole checks
Would have been the perfect murder
but, hydrochloric acid mummified
the evidence
I wont list the victims, the dead
just social security numbers
Six plastic tombs, forgotten in a bank vault

Lacey thank you for hosting this challenge ...

... Missy Thank You for an amzing write - You captured every parents' worst nightmare because we've all been there if only for a moment; that instant when you're shopping with your child and turn briefly to check a price or take a call, and your little one decides to play hide-n-seek, or wants to go to the candy aisle on their own ... OMG - that moment of calling out for them seems like an eternity ... You captured it masterfully.

no, thank you lobode for sharing that and i'm glad you feel so deeply

i do not have children of my own, and i am not a very religious person, but i pray for every parent that they do not loose their children, especially in the worst way possible... anyone who has ever lost someone, it's terrible, but for a parent, i can't even imagine, it scares the living shit out of me!!!!!

god, it makes me want to be sick.....

but a real thanks to the six of you, i always say this when i host competitions, but i mean it in all sincerity this time, i took so long, because i really didn't want to choose, all of these are really great, and i would of given you all first place, but i guess that defeats the purpose =].
thank you all again for your participation and tactfulness <3.
