Craving Violence
I got 8 teeth pulled at a very young age,
I remember feeling them slip from my gums as my bones creaked and cracked.
The dentist held up my bloody teeth and said to me,
Wow I’ve never seen roots so big and long on a child!
I watched him admire my bloody tooth,
I felt oddly proud.
He gave me my teeth in a little box,
They shook around in their case the whole way home.
I once got a fight with a kid 3 grades above me,
He hit his knuckles into the right side of my mouth.
I felt the metal of...

Come and See
I’m the dimly lit alley,
the grit born of the sidewalks and
asphalt, an uneasy feeling, a city breeze
that whispers something bad is going
to happen

Sex and violence
The paradoxical bipolarity of sex
amuses me to the point of giddy
supplication, playfully begging for a
taste of that sweet pink tenderness
undulating beneath me
It amazes me in the yin and yang
of it, the commingling of soft and hard,
gentle warm breath with suckling soft
as butterfly kisses and tongue swirls
that light a clit on fire
Or the pounding thrusts of pelvic
slamming while hands squeeze the
neck with strength and the authority
of control, a duality of dominance
and submission

Ask Her
14 years ago there was a 13yr old girl. She became heavily invested in anatomy books and began reading grisly material no 13yr old girl should have had any interest in.
She read these things not because she was actually interested in becoming a doctor, but because she needed to know where the major arteries on the human body were. She became very interested in knives.
Ask why that 13yr old girl felt the need to do this. Ask her what it was like standing over his bed with a knife. Ask her what went through her head when the gravity of what she was about to do hit her...

Nine
I remember my first act of violence
outside of the home that is
I just wanted to feel what it was like to win
so I prayed upon the weak
I don't remember feeling anything
but there were lessons
witnesses reported my crime and
punishment soon followed
A few well placed words and alligator
tears found my sentence commuted
under the noses of the gullible
I learned there is always a way out
I was nine years old
outside of the home that is
I just wanted to feel what it was like to win

Messenger Of Grief
Showing up unannounced
to deliver grim news
it is the worst part of the job
speaking of things
that will break them
for a lifetime
And those that have no answers
haunt and gnaw at you,
knowing that if that one piece of the puzzle
could be discovered
they could have closure
and as pained as they will always be,
they would never have to wonder
who it was that silenced that person they loved
Some embrace me,
after it sinks in,
steadying themselves
from being sucked into the depths
of that...

Funny What Sticks With You
As the fires burned
the sweet stench of diesel fuel
and human flesh infiltrated my senses.
The corpses of families strewn about,
decapitated children lying there
like broken dolls.
This was not their war.
Too long in the dirt boys,
sweat made mud and strangers
blood is painted on me.
I’ll be a macabre multilayered
masterpiece before we’re through.
I didn’t know some things would
never wash off.

The corpses of families strewn about,

A fragile doll
My nails dig your flesh
I moan like a bitch
You insult me
You treat me badly
I’m a fragile doll in a storm of violence

Sacred Space
Sacred Space
He is a priest not a soldier
Not in the line of fire
Christ wasn’t trying to start a revolution
And neither is he.
Sons of Spanish explorers
Kneel beside daughters with calloused hands
From picking coffee beans
When the sun dawns
Until Sol falls to his knees
And sinks like the parishioners
In humble obeisance
So those of African descent lend their ear
To absorb this lesson so long coming
For their ancestors who wore chains
But now gaze from the pulpit
As ghosts in the genes ...
