My Heart Smiled
I’ve always had a fascination with the automobile. Growing up I loved my Hot Wheels collection above all other toys. Would always look at the stamp on the bottom of the car, so I could learn: make, model, year.
My dad worked on cars for extra money when I was young. He wasn’t a certified mechanic but he knew how to work on them. I even remember he did minor body work, and painted them as well. He pulled engines and transmissions, and other items before taking them off to be crushed.
My favorite car he worked on was a 1968 Mercury Cougar. It was blue and had a...

Dying December Moon
The late December moon
offers a magic lambent light.
To soothe the darkest hours
of winters coldest night.
The fruit of lofty dreams
in the orchard of my mind,
have soured of their delight.
The compost of my desires
will once again,
fertilize the soul's soil.
A long vacant spring of self
still remains loyal.
Another year about to expire.
The night feels warm alongside
memory's nostalgic fires.
What we remember most,
is those who have been kind.
On the final nights of the year,
The...

Our Summer Memories
I know summer memories are supposed to fade away
Once fall and winter days come rolling around, but
How am I supposed to forget that summer with you?
I remember laughter, tears and sunshine as we sway
With the stars twinkling in the night sky and the gut
Wrenching feeling that this summer is not going to
To last forever like I wanted it to. I was only looking
For something temporary, but then you came in with
That megawatt smile, those sunshine eyes, that ocean
Breeze hair and I was easily losing my steady footing.
There was...
Once fall and winter days come rolling around, but
How am I supposed to forget that summer with you?
I remember laughter, tears and sunshine as we sway
With the stars twinkling in the night sky and the gut

who were we fooling
all those times that
went before us when
we were as young as
a new spring rising
going downtown on
a Friday or Saturday
shopping for clothes,
records, having lunch
laughing too loud
cursing too much
asking to bum a
smoke from a friend
sneaking a six pack
we were unafraid,
immortal and forver
beautiful like an oil
painting by Vermeer
believing we knew
the world better than ...
