Phemes Infamous Brood
"We make a space inside ourselves so that being can speak."
〰 Martin Heidegger 〰
RUMOUR
In last week’s wordcast we met Pheme, the daimona of fame and rumour in Greek mythology. In everyday language, the Greek word pheme simply means ‘speech’. It is fairly alive and familiar in the English words blasphemy and euphemism. Less so in the linguistic term pheme itself (= word as a grammatical unit).
Ancient Greek and Roman philosophers held the daimona (Pheme / Fama) responsible for anything related to the spreading of stories via...

Three Statues in the Garden
Medusa looking at me
inside the mirror
petrifying me
on the Icarus flight.
Leaving me adrift
like Ulysses without Ithaca
wanting mermaids.
And freezes my blood
in the labyrinth
of the veins.
Minotaur and Cyclops
setting the heart rate
of a distant chimera
deciphering riddles.
This muse abuses me
just tying me...
she's a shady girl and
profuse in the silences
telling me secrets,
obstacles and pain.
Not paying attention to me.
I lay down on the floor
prostrate in worship

Arthur's Day Off
He had a dream where he could see
The lunar orb as it arose
Through the shimmering of the sea
With sirens singing..."there she blows"!
It came up fast, like Aquaman,
In stellar spectrum just as gold
As lightspeed through its evening span
Of solar system constant cold.
All would steep in aquamarine
And a tropic turquoise hue
In playful blend of seaweed green
And Captain Ahab's bottle blue!

Cerulean Sea Maiden
Cerulean Sea Maiden
Cerulean Sea Maiden
Sultana of azure Mediterranean crystal waves
That wash over her like the surf
from the Isle of Rhodes
On an ancient morning in paradise
When she bathed in the cerulean sea
With scarlet tresses glistening
Like embers from the hearth
Upon whose heat Vesta sautéed barley
For the soup of immortality
She is the grail of men far and wide
Who basks in the first pink blush of dawn
Like a nymph lost in dreams
Of the palace of Knossos
Where ritual fever greets her day ...

Acrobaticus
I hear no belfry tolling twilight
but still they come
weaving dreams
through late summer air
to gorge upon
a feast invisible to me
their table set above the lawn
They race to fatten up
before the winter's huddle
exacts its cruelest due
and weaklings perish
when death comes for a cuddle
driving fears it could be you
Perhaps they scoff
at days gone by
when dainty damsels
swooned in fear
to flee in grim despair
imagining a fate entangled
forever in their hair

Hunter's Moon (Featuring Naajir)
it's the growl of a beast on the prowl
pulled from deep slumber
by desperate hunger
face lifted
eyes closed
easing leisurely from its hidden lair
drawn by instinct
scent of prey in the air
moving on silent feet
hunting the sensed
tracking the unseen
aggression leads
down a winding trail
through ethereal woodlands
as beads of sweat
flows in silent patterns
the animus is
ultra-felt as kindred
extraverted through thickened adrenaline
razor sharpening intuition
panting a nostalgic...

Noah Revisited
The Devil was dancing all night
and at dawn God screamed:
It's enough
Why are my churches empty
maybe I'll have to get tough
So he sent down a couple of angels
to spy out the lay of the land
That ought to do it
he thought
a fright will get things in hand
But it was 2000 years
since the last time
divine intervention was used
and his angels came back depressed
by the way the Earth had improved
They got much better music than us
and the girls are sexy as hell
If you knew what they do ...

For the Old Pagan Gods
you can tell me life was dangerous back then
and in those stories was
the gamut of loathing, violence, and fear,
the world expressed in spider’s webs
and men to fauna turned by wicked nymphs
and heifers once bewailed girls
but in caprice and madness there’s
a certain honesty, no sense that man
is ever saved or needs to live out on their knees
before a crude symbol,
it’s all just grass and rock and swirling mystery

handmaid of Frigg
chooser in fate
tokens travel
fog frocks we have worn
for a fair haired golden god
referent one
beloved Vanir
allow us foresight
keening our kin
beloved one
aspiring aquatic offerings
sun an obsolete orb
only the loveliest light

Destiny
Fallen Angels building a ladder
Rungs tied on with tears and blood splatter
Singing while working a Siren’s song
Pulling the innocent from right and wrong
Cerberus is nipping at their heals to move the herd
Hela wants to sing, but forgot the words
Medusa’s cracking a whip to speed things up
Sisyphus has depression and he’s in a rut
Persephone lied with Prometheus to create a spark
Hades found out and Prometheus was caught
Body splayed and strapped to a rock
As I IS ME the vulture tears at his heart
Gabriel is on...

Martian Chronicle
yo in the mars hood where red sand be creepin
astronaut amelia had a dope dream leapin
a story bout promise secrets kept in the deep
turnin red wasteland to green in a sweep
amelias skills were lit she mined that martian gold
but life threw shade left her mission cold
her rig went kaput a real buzzkill scene
her heart went dark like a crow so mean
then a rolled up sly as can be
a martian cat with eyes all flashy and free
"yo ill fix your rig" he grinned with might
"but a price gotta be paid to keep it...
