Poems about Homelessness and being Homeless
#homelessness
Homelessness poems, poems about being homeless. Poetry about poverty, life on the streets and opinions on how society fails the homeless. Also poems about the personal circumstances which lead people to become homeless.
these city streets (and 20 years)
1. 2004 Winter
Nineteen
a lady gave me her neon yellow sweater
on my way out of detox
she heard I was about to be homeless
and didn't want me to be frozen
to the spit stained pavement
before I had a chance
to live through the night
The detox centre
didn't care where I ended up
my week was over
and the rest was up to me
I'd been turned down
by 3 rehab centres that day
and didn't know where
I was going to sleep
I cried into fuzzy yellow
and made frenzied phone calls
a handful...

Home no More
Home no More
The sticker slapped upon my door
Informs me that we have a home no more
Gather up the wife and children with not much more than the clothes that hang off of us
At least it’s summertime I guess we won’t freeze sleeping under the night sky
But the season will change and we don’t have enough blankets to keep us warm
So we go to the shelter that is overflowing
With despair and broken human beings
In the darkness the vultures prey upon the few objects that we still own so we are back out on the cold...

Draws Down, Face Up
A homeless man in New York found a manhole in the Bronx that was just out of the way enough to offer him some privacy, so he routinely used it as a toilet. One day he lost his balance and was found dead at the bottom of the sewer. Draws down, face up.

Propaganda
Make America Great Again is that same tired old line
that I ain't buying this time
Selling us another bill of goods
while people go hungry, homeless and shot at in our hoods
Poisoning, land theft. rape and murder are the real parts of the story
of America's so-called glory
We have a 34 count Felon as President Elect
come on now y'all what the heck
The MSM would have you believe a Zebra is a Panda
bc they have sold out and want you to fall for Right Wing-Propaganda

salt water roads (2022)
These roads hold more weight
than they should
drenched in salt and fear
and daytime panic attacks
Purgatory leaves me breathless
I don't belong here
I shouldn't be here
I don't want to be here
But home isn't four walls
and solid ground
it takes more than that
to make a home
I am by definition homeless
I'm a life shoved into too many bags
I'm a heart that beats for yesterdays
I'm what fate hasn't decided what to do with
These roads become familiar
the map burns itself...

homeless
the night's
cold is
apparently
unaware
of what
it is
doing
to me,
it is
creeping
onto
my skin,
finding
its way
to
my bones,
and by
morning,
i may be
as cold
as the
night was,
unless the
sun can
save me.

Life Expectancy
In doorway forty three
she clings to cardboard skirts
though homeless is no crime
forgotten is what hurts
But who should rescue
her shortened years
and from their warm beds rise
when barefoot holy
winter's empire
descends unseen
to claim ill fated lives

THE HAUNTING
A child's fragile frame, curled tight on the ground,
Silent cries echo, but make no sound.
A vulture waits, patient, cold, and near,
In the heart of despair, death hovers here.
Empty bellies, hollow eyes, too weak to fight,
Life fades slowly under fading light.
The world looks on through a captured lens,
Yet their hunger, their pain—when does it end?
Kevin's eyes, heavy with grief,
Held the burden beyond belief.
A prize in hand, but a heart lost deep,
In shadows where haunted memories creep.
For all who saw, did you...
Silent cries echo, but make no sound.
A vulture waits, patient, cold, and near,
In the heart of despair, death hovers here.
Empty bellies, hollow eyes, too weak to fight,
Life fades slowly under fading light.
The world looks on through a captured lens,

Everythings Fine
There are bigger things to worry about than politics or the death of democracy.
Worry about the death of kindness.
Worry about the death of compassion.
Worry about the death of decency.
Worry about the death of yourself.
Or
Don't worry at all.
Look up to the sky
Be amazed and cry.
Isn't that all we've ever wanted
To be amazed.
Worry about the death of kindness.
Worry about the death of compassion.
Worry about the death of decency.
Worry about the death of yourself.
Or
Don't worry at all.
Look up to the sky
Be amazed and cry.

Lost Boy
Among the shadows where the silence breathes,
A lost boy walks, torn like autumn leaves
With haunted eyes, echoes of pain
Looking for shelter down the pouring rain
Once a dreamer in a world so vile,
Now, a wanderer with nowhere to hide
He's endured the harm of many hearts unkind,
Yet his spirit wishes for a chance to rise
Through nights of darkness, inhaling your fear,
Crystal ghosts haunt you; I feel you near
Each scar a story, each tear a song,
In a world that feels so painfully wrong
Stolen...

Man on the Street
Swallowed whole like Jonah
I reside in the guts of this
Beast, I can feel the heat of
its heart beat.
I can see the distension
in trembling and quivering
insides as I move around
on my feet.
I walk beside choked arteries
and down various tubes,
hanging gardens somewhere above
but here just waste and ooze.
I find a quiet cavity
and curl up on some bony surface
to snooze
but I don't get much sleep.
