A Hellhound by any other name - NaPoWriMo 24
What fresh hell is this?
What madness sought this out?
The folly and failure of technology
is in striving to create the impossible
with little to regard
to whether it should be possible.
Robot dogs that carry flamethrowers,
yet another step on the path of dystopia
each step paved with good intentions
and gilded by profit margins
to a new horrible hell on earth.

Dropped a shiny nickel down a well
Hoping for a splash
Hearing a kerplunk
What???
I should have known
expected this arid bit
no more energy
for no more spit
Been getting by on
perhaps, due to the well

I watched him walk away
with a distinct air of unfinished business
didn't even glance over his shoulder
no indication he ever would
but I felt the later in his departure
my mind began to tremble
while my heart skipped a beat
like a poem that ends in the middle of a stanza...
...just left me hanging
there's no letting go without closure
I simply had to keep it moving
do the best I could to focus on the present
while hope kept poking me in the back
the silent emptiness continually kicking me in the ass ...

even colder when
inside a bottle

it’s not liquidy
for if it was
no one would be
able to swim in

Metamorphosis
Maybe I don’t hate myself anymore…
I used to be consumed
By a deep self-loathing
But I’m learning now
How to be self-forgiving
I used to be burdened
By traumatic memories
But the memories are fading
And being replaced
With notions of fortitude
With newfound grace
Growing in self-love
Growing in strength
No longer disturbed
By tragic past times
I have finally returned
To my rhythm and rhyme

ignition is just a spark

I wonder how many times I reached for the fire
already knowing I was going to get burnt
it's not something I ever acknowledged
...in the moment
like a child with a fistful of candy
I only knew I wanted it
never mind the pain that would be waiting
indulging my longing
...if only to feel alive
because what makes blood pump stronger than love...or passion
always understanding...of course...
though they might come in tandem
...they're not one & the same
but did it register before I leapt into the flame...
I wonder how many times I reached for the fire

mother in law.
Unexpected loose conversation
after a day of travelling strain
performing my best
Being reminded of my faults
through comments from outside
(and why must he join in these attacks?)
And derided by self commentary within
(Why can I not be generous,
putting aside my writing time
for her sake without resentment?)
The connection finally came through stories, of course –
A long-distance courtship on cassette tape,

Nuisance
I’m always over-eager
to let you off the hook
dealing get out of jail free cards
before you’ve even asked
Because obviously, my requests
must have been
a nuisance
Well I don’t want this
self-inflicted itchy coat of blame
and I refuse to carry
this imaginary shame
It’s not
too much
to want a moment of attention
a few seconds of uncalculated truth
I’d like to help you step out
from behind those levers of control
But I’m done making your excuses
by convincing myself that I am

the only Family I’ve left, moving out of
an umbrella of skin searing heat . . .
