Zombies
Distance becomes normal
Tears fall from high above
Conflict is burning thermal
In this world without love
She’s been sold for pleasure
A wealthy man’s twisted dream
Her pain is beyond measure
Across some random livestream
Is this what were becoming?
Tender sycophants that praise
Has it turned mind numbing?
Participating in the latest craze
Simple lack of a conscience
Sinking deeper in our demise
Zombies remain unconscious
Drowning within their own lies

She was on her way home from a friend's house
A man raped her in the parking lot of her apartment building
30 feet from the entrance
At first she begged to let her go
He punched her, broke the left half of her jaw
She stopped resisting
It was better to just get it over with and hope that he didn't kill her
All the time he was raping her she could feel it
She didn't black out
She could feel her tearing her up inside
She tried to relax so it wouldn't hurt as much

my sorrow wanes then peaks
no control for it, it grows
my soul grieves for broken days
the ones that alienated me from my friends
seeking shelter in excuses
They don't understand
if they knew I was in so much pain
it they felt on their skin
maybe we'd meet eye to eye
a tortured existence is my lot
anxiety turns and panic attacks leave me lost
in a maze of strange faces
chasing me home
where demons taunt
my sacredness, my only safety
tainted never my mental illness...

Pedal to the Metal
California - Southbound One-O-One
Pedal to the medal, enjoying the scene
The Pacific Ocean is blue and sparkling
Top down, cool breeze, living the dream
The heart beats faster as the engine roars
But at top speeds it takes a lot of nerves
There’s a thrill that hangs in the balance
As tires screech on those treacherous curves
Though there may be warning signs everywhere
The driver may ignore them with a little smug
Because no matter what others will caution or say
The excitement of velocity is like a drug

Giving thanks this holiday season
Some of you knew
Others didn’t
In early January 2024
I was diagnosed with having a/fib
Atrial Fibrillation
How could that be ?
I never felt the symptoms particularly
Yet it was
Blood thinners immediately prescribed
Other heart drugs too
Then
Complications from drugs
More doctors
Lots of tests
Terrible interrupted sleep
Peeing like no tomorrow
Then
I started to listen to my doctors
Also to myself
Decisions to be...

keeping Self in check
one of the most difficult...
...& most valuable...
lessons I've had to learn in healing
is not letting my own wounds
become someone else's damage
turning the sharp edge of my pain
...away
because emotional injury...
...is something we cannot undo
& apologies don't mend the ache
the scar will always remain
just as mine exist
so too will theirs
& what if...
mine was one strike too many...
...& most valuable...

Losing my marbles
While sitting on the front step
It jumped out of my head
Another precious marble
Rolled down the garden bed
I bent down to retrieve it
And found some others there
I knew I'd lost my marbles
But I didn't really care
My marbles have been with me
Since I was a little lad
I played a zillion games with them
Played many with my dad
So thank you all my marbles
And the few that still remain
I will cherish all our moments
Till the end of my campaign
Had I never lost my marbles
I'd have never lived at...
