Them

They're always watching me.
I cannot escape their evil glare.
I try to show my friends, but they cannot see.
I would get closer, but I never dare.

All They do is stand, quiet, but never alone.
More seem to arrive every night.
Some are tall, some seem to be made from stone.
Nonetheless, They're only there to cause fright.

I seem Them all day, I feel Their eyes all night.
I clear my mind, but They still find a way back in.
They aren't afraid of light.
They are as evil as a deadly sin.

One night, I will approach Them, only with a clear mind.
I will find the answers They are searching for.
I will be very paranoid though, always looking behind.
I will discover every secret They hide within every pore.

But tonights not the night, I will wait.
I too will begin to watch, seeing only Their empty eyes.
I will fight back, anything to change my fate.
I will search through all Their evil lies.

One night, one of Them stepped into the light.
I quickly noted its appearance, getting every detail.
Although what I saw did cause quite a painful sight.
But now all I want is to win the fight, never to fail.

Its body was long and slender, dark and black.
Its hands scraped along the ground.
Its fingers like blades, ready to hack.
As It moved, I heard not a single sound.

Its eyes were gone, only empty sockets were there.
Its mouth was wide, its teeth like those from a shark.
As It smiled, I shrunk back, my will beginning to tear.
From within Its body, I could see They were Masters of the Dark.

Tonight's the night, I'm going to attack.
I told my friends, that I might not return the next day.
They laughed, saying insanity was one trait I didnt' lack.
I tried to explain, but they didn't care what I had to say.

I wiped away tears of regret, tears of sadness.
I called my family, saying I loved them all.
No one can save me from this plunge into madness.
I knew that I could no longer stall.

It was time to face my fear.
I loaded a bag with supplies, in the event I had to run.
As I left the safety of my home, my fate became clear.
I would never again feel the warmth of the sun.

I walked towards Them, tears rolling down my face.
I could feel their glare increase as I neared.
Strangly, my eyes began to burn, like I was sprayed with mace.
And I began to realize why it was Them I feared.

A tall one stepped forward, smiling an evil grin.
It raises Its arms, and the lights all go out.
Images enter my mind, ones that would make tears out of men.
I look around but see nothing, I knew it out of doubt.

My world goes black as I fall into a deep sleep.
When I wake I seem to have arrived in Hell.
As I look around, I see human skeletons in one giant heap.
I look up from the space from which I fell.

They surround me, their eyes now filled with pain?
Suprised, I speak asking why They brought me here.
The tall one said, I was needed for help They needed to gain.
A small one said, I had nothing to fear

I asked who sent Them, hoping for something of helpful use.
They all said, in a low grunting tone......HIM!
I looked for "Him" but all I found was a man on a noose.
I noticed how quickly Hell had gotten dim.

I heard a voice, an evil empty tone.
I watch Them cower in fear, falling to the ground.
I watched Them disappear until I was all alone.
I tried to scream, but heard no sound.

As He approached, I noticed how the terrain had changed.
The ground was softer, no longer made of stone.
I could no longer hear the screams of the deranged.
No longer could I hear Them moan.

He finally made it to me, but I couldn't see His face.
He said in a rough voice, that He was glad we could finally meet.
How He's been carefully studying my race.
And how He only chose few for His terrible feat.

He needed someone to lead His army of dark.
Against the Guardians of Light.
Its not a journey He, Himself could yet embark.
The first invasion was to only cause fright.

He explained how I was one of five other Lords of Fate.
He told me I was the Lord of Fear.
I asked if this attack was filled with revenge or hate.
He said once all the Lords had gathered the plan would be clear.
             -Then I blacked out-
When I came to, I was back in my bed.
I could no longer feel Their evil glare.
For once, I could think with a clear head.
Had They all just been a dream? Or something more to a little scare?
