Checkmate

Trapped in the corner
up against the wall
you wait
knowing what's to come is
necessary

Your eyes remain downcast
cuddling yourself
for protection
anticipating my cruelty

Right beside you it leans
ready for my steady hand
to deliver your punishment
your freedom

Relishing this moment
I sip more cognac
deep in contemplation
savoring your gift to me

Closing my eyes I witness
the streaking swoosh
the flesh recoiling
the red zebra stripes
left for all to see

Until now it's been a game
move then countermove
check then retreat
check then retreat
then
at long last you feel
the domination
of my final move
