Where To?
Couldn’t sleep tonight
So wept instead,
Hoping to drown
The memories in my head
Four in the morning
Sleep still won’t come,
Laying with aching eyes
And a chest that’s hollow and numb
Pull open the cover
White and ink on a page
Accepting of words,
Tapping out all of my rage
Six in the morning
Tired and spent
Writing for hours
Yet the memories refuse to relent
Six thirty and violent
I just want some peace,
A refuge of sorts
That doesn’t require a lease
Seven and bankrupt
Emotion all cleared
Eyes finally heavy
Only to find nightmares I’ve feared
So which do I go to,
The darkness of sleep
Or the haunting of wakefulness
Where my memories keep?
So wept instead,
Hoping to drown
The memories in my head
Four in the morning
Sleep still won’t come,
Laying with aching eyes
And a chest that’s hollow and numb
Pull open the cover
White and ink on a page
Accepting of words,
Tapping out all of my rage
Six in the morning
Tired and spent
Writing for hours
Yet the memories refuse to relent
Six thirty and violent
I just want some peace,
A refuge of sorts
That doesn’t require a lease
Seven and bankrupt
Emotion all cleared
Eyes finally heavy
Only to find nightmares I’ve feared
So which do I go to,
The darkness of sleep
Or the haunting of wakefulness
Where my memories keep?
