It was to early to apologise.
The lorikeets
around my school
would flock in numbers
to feed on discarded fruit
most of them were drunk by 7 o’clock
as they gorged on fermented produce
their flight was a little shaky
and vision not to clear
as they crashed into classroom windows
with a thump of unconsciousness
I was the only one bothered to save the drunken birds
and nurse them back to health
so they could return home
I guess I was like the lorikeets
although I wasn’t a rainbow bird
and I didn’t like to drink
so smoked that meth instead
to give me the courage
so I could apologise to you
but like the lorikeets
it was the early hours
and I was unstable
so I collapsed into the glass
and blacked out instead
I just wished you were the helping hand,
that was in such high demand.
