Don't kid yourself; I own you
Have I stung you once too often
for us to continue on this way?
Have my lies of 'I love you'
ceased to brighten up your day?
Can you suddenly see clearly
from your position at my feet?
The ways in which I keep you there
now not seeming quite so sweet?
Have you finally decided
that you need to be free?
And that the only way you can
is to go on without me?
Do you swear that you mean it,
that this time it is for real?
That you'll never take me back,
no matter how I appeal?
But don't you remember
our picnics in the park?
And the way I hold you gently
when you're frightened in the dark?
Wont you miss the way I laugh
at the same things that you do?
Are you starting to see now
that what they're saying is untrue?
We both know I have a temper,
but can't you see me cry?
Don't you think we're worth
at least another try?
Can't you see I need you,
and realize I was wrong?
I'll lie and say 'I love you'
and you'll come back where you belong.
