The Big Chop: Natural Hair

I am not my hair, India Arie
Beyond society's definition "nappy or untamed"
Society sees us in a light of fear as we only rock the tresses of other nationalities, not having the ability to see what is

We give up on ourselves hiding behind wigs and weaves
Its time for the us to have confidence in our very own 'roots'
Being proud and prideful in the unprocessed hair
Naturally as our mother beared us as infants

We must not give in to what they think is beautiful
My black is beautiful, our black is unique, and powerful!
Strong in its image, liberating and carefree. And I'm show not gone let a damn thing stop me. I have done the most and whlaa BIG CHOP its gone!

I cut off not only my hair but the image that you see
I cut off your approval, and the world's opinion
I big chopped!
