Maybe

I'm a little bit older
than I was last year
a little bit wiser
with a little less cheer.
it's all give and take
but what'd I give away?
and am I okay
with what I have to take?
another January first,
a new year with old problems
don't they always seem to catch you
right when you think you lost them?

Maybe next time
I'll be more certain,
won't wonder what's
behind the second curtain
or cut his poor heart out
tired of being a surgeon
maybe next time
I'll be more certain.
maybe...

I'm a little less pretty
than I was last year
I think I look older
my skin is less clear
it's all part of my story
skip the parts that are boring
like right now as I write this
I'm so bored as I type this.
I thought I was in love,
I thought that this was it
but after wearing you a year
I don't think that we fit.

Maybe next time
I'll be more certain,
won't wonder what's
behind the second curtain
or cut his poor heart out
tired of being a surgeon
maybe next time
I'll be more certain.
maybe...

I'm always second guessing,
or over thinking some event.
so I am never happy
never broken just sort of bent.

Maybe next time
I'll be more certain,
won't wonder what's
behind the second curtain
or cut his poor heart out
tired of being a surgeon
maybe next time
I'll be more certain.
maybe...
