Tango Mischief

Stifling, sultry night in La Boca in mid August
Beunos Aires drapped in a sticky net most humid.

Steady rain drums relentless on makeshift tin roofs
keeping sad time with a rhythm of desperate longing.

Two lovers young and wanton take hands then the stage
stealing a private moment on the crowded dance floor.

Pulling close they pause tender soft cheek to cheek
all they have are tonight, this dance, and each other.

Their wide eyes remained glued and locked so adoring
forcing the cruel world to retreat and thus fade away.

He pulls her towards him seizing her and all that she is
as she yields unfolding drapping herself about him.

All the while the violin weeps and wretches in sad agony
for the tender fragility of their love, youth and beauty.

So burning close he smells her cheap perfume all about
as she savors the domination of his salty dripping musk.

Their moves are crass and vulgar as lean bodies entwine
two lonely spirits conjoined thru the mischief of tango.

Then most tragic the music ends as the lusty bubble bursts
leaving them breathless as they kiss deep and part once more.
