La Petite Mort

it is in that moment of complete poetic abandon
that i fall into your eyes as you fall into my body and
i confess my love with my cries,
it is in that moment when our bodies curl together like snakes,
fit together like puzzle pieces made specifically
for one another
a matching set of bookends and
with arms and fingers clasped and legs intertwined and
hearts beating against one another
we float away.
our sea is one of great depth and wonder and moves like
the ripple of flesh as bodies collide
and holds secrets and vast caverns of emotion that have the power to
overflow cities, fill dry lakebeds to the brim,
caress down mountains like sweaty hands and wet lips

in the daytime, the waves sound like laughter,
the breeze smells of joy
but at night,
they moan with anticipation,
they break with pleasure over one another and
smell of the musk of joined bodies that fills rooms to the brim
and makes us whimper.
in that moment when your lips touch my neck and your
fingers brush my core
and I bite fingernails into your back,
crescent moons that rise and fall and rise and fall
and take shape and glow and wane and explode,
we can see everything
we know the secrets of the universe,
we know why the dove calls and the trees die and the seeds grow,
they make us listen close and shiver
they show us birth and they show us death
they show us how to live,
they give way and whisper
la petite mort.
