Dividing

Books you read to me content
Their pages bent and torn.
On half empty shelves, the floors,
in boxes to keep
forever unfinished.

Pretty frames on the walls
of happy smiling faces
Of lovers and friends
Now vacant spaces
torn asunder
Separate from their beautiful enclosures in crates.

Plates and bowls with chips and stains
From years of handing carelessly
And stains, from burnt meals and sticky deserts
caked in creases. now
Stacked high in a hollow kitchen
Once adorned, in the glow of love
From preparing, the many meals shared.

Towels and sheets
decorated with neutral colors
suited us both
Given in love from a Warming
At present piled in boxes marked his and hers
All holding loving pieces
Of our shattered hopes and dreams.

Clothes in closets
Collected over the years
So full of our collected scents
A dress worn on an anniversary
A suit bought especially for a wedding
Which to give away
Which to keep of this life folded away in packages.

The couch, dented from hours
scrutinizing the big game or
wrapped in your arms after a scary movie
The chair, that you often slept
After a good meal,
Both coved in the back of moving truck

The Bed, I didn’t want,
holds the most memories here
it's where love ruled supreme
and you schooled me.
Teaching lessons only a
Master could.

Memories
Of love, living and heartache
Broken down like this life
we now divide in pieces.

Dividing this life of things
I’m reminded of love
Laughter and tears,
of deafen silence and  quiet shouts
of a life surrendered.

Dividing, is bitter sweet,
The life I shared with a lover,
That I now can call my friend.
