"Old Folk"

"Old Folk" By Marcus Cooke

Ah The Old folk
i wonder how much tea
they have drunk this morning?
taking medicine through oral suspension
running errands
and collecting pensions
meeting to eat scones and drink tea
discussing perms
and forgetting to pee.

All old folk are trained in the use of
throwing ninja knitting needles
a lifetime of overreacting
and battling personal demons.
old folk i find once had a sense
of nobility
now they aim for you, on scooters
due to there lack
of mobility.

There mood swings
and multicolored perms
can sometimes be considered eyesores
I shall have to remind them
they were not here first
that would be the dinosaurs.

They never leave there home alone
they only hunt in packs
how come they know each other names?
safety in numbers
when age attacks.

To the old folk i salute you
i raise a glass of sherry in your honor
prepare the bucket list,
prepare the care plan
because failing you would be a grave dishonor.
