Don't be afraid
I would lay with you
in endless oceanic bliss,
as the waves of our love
crash upon the world.
I would let those drown
whose shallow, hateful minds
had not granted them
the ability to swim.
You would hide us away
in shrinking, lonely caverns,
where our illumination
would be stifled in the dark.
You would let those fools,
with their judgments and scorn,
pour their liquid cruelty
to put out our flame.
I understand that you fear
you too will be submerged,
never having had the courage
to wade deeply in your identity.
If you would but let me,
my sure arms would wrap around you
and together we could break the surface
of your shame and lies.
I know you despise the darkness,
just as much as I,
and the malicious way it suffocates
your flame which should be strong.
Come, love, take my hand
and rest safely in the knowledge
that I can burn bright enough to light both our ways,
until you catch as well.
