Image for the poem My relief.

My relief.

You pick it up and you smile. You see yourself in the reflection, you know it makes everything okay. It turns the water to wine, the moon to the sun.It chases away the monster under your bed, it silences the voices screaming in your head.

You carefully touch it to your soft skin and guide it toward yourself with a great effort. Your wrist opens slightly, just enough for the blood to find relief as it trickles down. You push it in deeper as a shock of adrenaline is sent rushing through your body at top speed.

You smile. You feel elated as all the lies and deceit flow down your arm in rivers of joy. Bright red joy. All the backstabbing and fake smiles fade to dust. They disintegrate to nothing because you know you are finally strong enough to finish this.

And you will.
