You Win

Sometimes we don't get our own way,
which is sometimes all for the best.
We might want to stay up all night,
but we fall asleep getting some rest.

We might want to eat the whole cake.
but end up with only a slice;
we might want to chance the whole game,
but we only get a roll of the dice.

We really just want our own flavor,
but others have tastes of their own,
and sometimes we want to give up
because we're squares seeking a cone.

Each of us has our own reason
for rejecting life just as it is,
but no matter the time or the season
acceptance is tied to our bliss.

I've heard what you've said and don't like it,
but seeing how there's no other way
to heed your request for a square/conish fit
I think I'll just call it a day.
