Sunrise Over Gold
The crucible of the sun rises
From the fiery furnace
Of the spirit world
To pour forth its molten glory
Into the frozen north.
It flows into the granite rock
And out over the land
Like life blood beaming
From a golden heart.
As the sun ascends
Across the sky,
Its light turns
From golden iridescence
To the clear light of a diamond --
And showers its riches
Over the glittering snow.
The raven is messenger
Of the spirit world
And knows the secret
Of its riches.
(Think I got my poem right --
like pulling a silver
wriggling fish
up out of my net.)
[The photos above show winter sunrise behind the two headframes of a gold mine in northern Canada. Just as two goldmines in the area were playing out after over 40 years, a discovery was made of massive diamond deposits –- that will sustain the local economy for decades to come. In the north, modern day society with all its advanced technologies coincides with a native culture that has preceded it by many centuries.]
