My Abyss
The door slams, hooks pierce my flesh
Screams arise, alone i embrace death
She calls to me, "Child you alone brought yourself to this end"
In agony and torment i hear a whisper, "Come with me"
I see my demons approaching ready to score more flesh
Please no more, i cry, i plead, i hold my breath
Her hand grasps mine, "Come with us"
The path curves to the left
A light off to the right blinds me
she cries out"Turn from the light to the dark and you'll find me"
My demons chasing, my heart racing
I long for her, her voice embracing
Even in death, I long to hold her
Running from life, breath escapes me
I have to be with her
Echoes of screams around me, my life behind me
Blood drying, wounds fester, to ever remind me
To endure pain, to love her
To turn back now, never find her, i'll never recover
her hand in mine, now i run aimlessly
through lands unknown to me, waters black, can this be?
this forever i waited for, this girl, my love will she keep
my alarm sounds, i wake up, to find i was only asleep.

This reminds me of a verse in Anne Sexton's famous dirge "Wanting to Die":
"Death's a sad bone; bruised, you'd say,
and yet she waits for me, year and year,
to so delicately undo an old would,
to empty my breath from its bad prison."
A deep, dark poem about depression and the all-consuming lust for death.
