distance

the distance between us seems alive
a sentient being determined to keep us apart
the more I yell at it
the more I shake my fist
try to force it to move out of our way
the more it laughs at me
and my feeble attempts to control it
it will not be controlled
not by me
not by you
it is its own creature
no doubt about that
and we must simply go around it
so we can be together
