My Digital Condolences
Ineffectual chat window,
my friend from far away is in pain.
How can I send my compassion
through your cold text?
How can I send a hug
through virtual space?
The impact of his suffering is lessened not one bit
by the many miles and borders that separate us.
How can I let him know he's cared for
when the words seem so hollow
without a warm voice and soft look to accompany them?
And what do my words even matter
when the reasons for his sorrow are so solidly there with him
and in reality we are strangers?
