Divine Reflections

Divine reflections.

Jews, Christians, Muslims,
and religions of ever hue.
All believe that they are the chosen ones,
And the keepers of the truth.
They all say that God loves them,
But they can’t really love themselves.
All are striving to find heaven,
While making their own hells.
~
Their religion belittles them,
Making history of learning tales.
Setting out unreachable goals,
So that everyone fails.
Hiding from themselves,
Their self loathing and guilt of sin.
Incomplete and broken,
Honest discovery cannot even begin.
~
So they try to save you and me,
And bring us into the light.
Finding fault in our freedom,
They try to enslave us in what they believe is right.
But within their harsh world,
Of only black and white.
There is very little true compassion,
Only the wrong and the right.
~
Their righteousness binds them to their faith,
And blinds them to their shadows.
And without ever asking questions,
They can never really know.
So just let me walk under open skies,
Free from the sacred houses and closed minds.
To find myself completely,
As a reflection of the divine.
~

Let me discover my own shadows,
With the compassion that I show strangers.
And face the question of truth,
With all of enlightenment’s dangers.
To truly live my own story,
Not just relive a tale within a book.
To find that which is within all of us,
If we are only brave enough to look.
