Three Words

The words that so easily
fell from my lips
now cleave my heart in two.
Those simple words
I thought would be our greeting each day,
Our hello and goodbye at the beginning and end
of each encounter.
Those three simple words
Which now tear at my heart
were all I had to cling to.
All I wanted in my life.
Three little words
which change so much.
Three words to make me feel beautiful
Three words to make me strong
Three words that were supposed to make everything all right.
All gone.
