The Wonder Before Alice-Part One: Love Is No Game
Hair dark as night
Eyes like the moon light
Decked in a checkered dress
Hoping the ball won’t be a mess
Stepping cleverly into his carriage
Unaware this very night leads to a marriage
Nervous of meeting the princess of chess
To his parents he must confess
Quickly painting my nails red
Remembering all the tears she bled
Pacing in from wall to wall
Waiting for the maids’ call
Approaching the castle gate
Breathing in possible dark fate
As the squire shouts
“The Prince of Cards" as he helps me out
He’s here… ”dear..
Dear Princess..”the maids cheer
Taking a deep breath wit a gracious smile
Walking down the hall with maids in single file
She knows I’m here
Her not caring is my biggest fear
Bowing as I enter the large doors
Hearing the sound of dancing heels across the floor
Now I’m to the stairs
I gulp hard imagining the guests’ glares
Tip toeing nice a slow
When I realize this is now show
I can smell the scent of rose beckoning closer
I wonder if it’s her as I continue further
Then I see a pair of eyes peek around a high corner
Is it her I can’t help but wonder
Its just a ball
But what if I fall
Love comes easy to the royalty of game
But is love also a game, one full of shame?
Maybe if I tell her how I feel she won’t have to hear
Maybe then I will have no fear
But I still want her
I want to fall together
Here goes nothing…
It seems the steps just keep coming
As I reach the bottom the guests stare
Smiling and applauding with gentle care
She looks so gorgeous with her gentle smile
It’s true I do love her..no more denial
Now to find my way to her
Wait she’s walking closer
My breathe has gone
Taken as I stepped on
His eyes glimmered in the light
This feeling I could no longer fight
I hope she will be mine by the end of the night
She’s in front of me..this time it feels right
I bow with my right hand out offering a dance
Hoping maybe just maybe she will give me a chance
A dance, I cannot refuse
Suddenly my muscles are of no use
I shake as I force my hand out
This action I begin to doubt
Her hands warm tremble as the grasp mine
Finally its time
Pulling her in close enough to dance
But far enough to give talking a chance
I can feel his heart beat
Maybe this wasn’t such a bad feat
As words spill from his lips
And his hands rest gently in my hips
I know exactly what to say
As to the music our bodies begin to sway
She pauses between replies
I swear her voice is one of my newest highs
I decided to jump to the chase…but just with a simple kiss
Now his lips I know I will miss
He doesn’t pull away
Now what is left to say?
Her lips were warm and gently sweet
Kissing her will always be a favored treat
I couldn’t pull away
And somehow still had words left to say
He lifted my chin so my eyes met his
I felt my heart begin to bubble and fizz
He said he had a secret
One he wouldn’t regret
“I love you” I say gently
And tears fall from her eyes ever so quickly
I’ve ruined it I fear
My heart begins to break with every tear
Is it true?
Did he mean it when he said “I love you”?
I cant help but let tears pour
They are of happiness and maybe even more
She ties her arms around me
As here come Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee
He questions each tear
This is truly what I fear
I shoo away the Tweedles quickly
I explain to the prince that I love him dearly
Knowing it may lead to pain
Halting the tears’ generous rain
So happy she feels the same
But what of the Tweedles, me they will surely frame
I take her hand and lead her away
So we can talk alone if she wishes to stay
I’m not going to leave his side
Though I know soon up will come his carriage ride
He says he thinks this feels right
That his love for me he can no longer fight
She says she understands what I say
That she feels the same way
I ask if she would stay forever
I even promised to protect her
He asks for my hand in marriage
As up rolls his white stallion drawn carriage
I lean in for one last kiss as I whisper yes
He was perfect and I couldn’t settle for any less
Tonight we are engaged next is her ring
Tomorrow it I shall bring
She shall be Queen and me King of Wonderland
From now on life shall be grand
I know now love is no game
That love has no shame
That love outlasts fame
