I Wrote Down Her Name
There beckons in the forests
A maiden of trust and fair
Will I stand and stare, or summon
Commence the broken barrier
And send her a lasting message
A misused heart , and I wrote down her name
Then, beyond all reasoning she fled
To the forests instead
Of staying here with me, I, too, shall flee
I felt so cold that September morning
And it burned my skin
But I would never let her in
So now she stands beyond my sight
In the forests, to wallow in shame
As the paper with her name
Slips through my fingers
A maiden of trust and fair
Will I stand and stare, or summon
Commence the broken barrier
And send her a lasting message
A misused heart , and I wrote down her name
Then, beyond all reasoning she fled
To the forests instead
Of staying here with me, I, too, shall flee
I felt so cold that September morning
And it burned my skin
But I would never let her in
So now she stands beyond my sight
In the forests, to wallow in shame
As the paper with her name
Slips through my fingers
