Writing For You
A word upon paper
A line, a phrase.
Vague enough to keep away their questions
But you know they are for you.
Like Elizabeth
I write a secret
Only you understand.
Her's was "How Do I Love Thee"
Mine is as yet a mystery.
Gradually the pieces become clear
And slowly it becomes obvious,
This is not a mere friendship.
If it were I would not lay awake
Wondering if sleep has eluded you tonight as well.
I would not wish I knew the melody of your voice,
Nor the planes of your face.
I would not feel guilt
For thinking of you.
Please, let us not play games anymore
They are nothing but headaches and worries in my mind.
I want to speak plain
To avoid the run around and the chasing.
Let's us stop circling the point
Please, just hit the target for me.
