I Guess That's Why She's Alone ©

Being true comes natural,
but also it attacks.
She thinks that she has many friends,
yet no one calls her back.
Maybe she just thinks too much
and needs to learn to chat.
She believes that if she plays along,
they all would call her bluff.

Would you like her more if she was superficial?
If she learned to nod and smile?
Would you like her more if she were less obstinate?
The one to make the parties wild?

She's told that, if she'd like more friends,
she must learn to relate.
But the only way that's possible
is if she becomes fake.
She must learn to speak of frivolous things,
and never to debate.
She must deny her instincts.
Heedless, she must be.

If she could, she would
She'd ignore all philosophy.
She'd carve a brand new frame.
But she finds it hard
to make believe she's someone else
and just roll with the game

Maybe that's why no one phones.
Maybe that's why  she's alone.

She feels they all just humor her.
Good friends are far and few.
Maybe she would be content
were she a social bird like you.
There's more important things to her
than parties, jokes, and booze.
But, if she wants to find some happiness
she must find a center in this too.

Would you like her more if she acted fun and fictional?
and learned to nod and smile?
Would you like her more if she would just capitulate?
and thought more like a child?
Would you like her more if she could be a party girl?
and could take shots like a fool?
Well, I guess her role is as lone artist
because she's nothing close to you.

Would you like her more if she was more conventional?
and never drew the line?
Would you like her more if she was unmethodical?
and carefree all the time?
Would you like her more if she were more submissive?
and dropped her good 'ole guns?
If she kept quiet who she really is and
learned to have more fun?

Maybe that's why no one phone's.
Maybe that's why I'm . . . . . .
 . . . . .  . why she's alone.

No one who knows her really seems to know her.
Maybe that's why she's alone.
