Her Only Escape
She curls up on the couch
Clutching her precious wine
Her wife looks on in worry
When she says she’s fine
But the memories of him
Drive her to the drink
And she just can’t stop
He’s pushed her to the brink
She tried to move on
To marry a woman so smart
But he keeps coming back
It’s tearing her apart
The nightmares remind her
Of abuse and pain
Many restless nights
But a smile she can feign
It’s been many years
And her health isn’t so good
It’s about time she stopped
If only she could
Her wife is there
Supporting her so
But time is almost up
And it’s time to go
The years of abuse
From herself and him
Has caught up fast
Her eyes are now dim
At last it is over
A tortured soul set free
Perhaps she’d still be alive
Were it not for me
Clutching her precious wine
Her wife looks on in worry
When she says she’s fine
But the memories of him
Drive her to the drink
And she just can’t stop
He’s pushed her to the brink
She tried to move on
To marry a woman so smart
But he keeps coming back
It’s tearing her apart
The nightmares remind her
Of abuse and pain
Many restless nights
But a smile she can feign
It’s been many years
And her health isn’t so good
It’s about time she stopped
If only she could
Her wife is there
Supporting her so
But time is almost up
And it’s time to go
The years of abuse
From herself and him
Has caught up fast
Her eyes are now dim
At last it is over
A tortured soul set free
Perhaps she’d still be alive
Were it not for me
