Understanding
Spare me your ill tongue
Or your spiteful gaze, for
I offer neither to you.
That is all I ask of you
And that is all I ask of the world.
I don't expect you to understand me,
I only ask for simple forgiveness.
I know how I act,
The words that I say,
The things that I feel
And the way that I live my life.
All mysteries to you.
I don't expect you to understand,
I only wish for freedom
From your grasp,
Your laughing eye.
We're different,
You and I. You see,
Where you saw safety
I saw a prison..
So no. I
Don't expect you to
Understand me,
Because I can break all
Of the ties that bind
Me, and hold
The freedom I need,
And finally breathe.
Or your spiteful gaze, for
I offer neither to you.
That is all I ask of you
And that is all I ask of the world.
I don't expect you to understand me,
I only ask for simple forgiveness.
I know how I act,
The words that I say,
The things that I feel
And the way that I live my life.
All mysteries to you.
I don't expect you to understand,
I only wish for freedom
From your grasp,
Your laughing eye.
We're different,
You and I. You see,
Where you saw safety
I saw a prison..
So no. I
Don't expect you to
Understand me,
Because I can break all
Of the ties that bind
Me, and hold
The freedom I need,
And finally breathe.
