Snake and boy

Dirt on your nose,
little snake;
'Simon', (though you're a girl.)

Face on the glass,
yawn, tangerine jaw,
and my heart melts.

Some people don't like snakes,
think them ugly,
abhorrent.

Don't worry, snakey,
I love you.
with your eye on me.

Cautious, cute spring,
I want to honour you,
in length. (yours 23inches)

So I write of a snake
and a boy
and he doesn't like her at first.

Snakey is scary,
to young boy,
and he is chubby and tentative

would prefer a hamster,
would prefer
not to handle dead rats.

But boy learns
to like snake,
his scaly coil

Now always in arm,
his arm, her tree,
she turns to look (like Simon turns to me)

But where am I?
I wonder,
in the story,

I turn to the sky
and look
with my cherubim eyes

-

Of course!
I am the snake,
So that's what-

Well,
at that point
I started crying.
