ghetto shave ice

There it is...
The thing that represents my family in my mind
That same ol ghetto Jimmy rigged shave ice machine
I've seen time after time
Hooked up to a car battery
Its the only machine they let us use
Right next to the beer keg
Empty
Turn it
Its singing the blues
Bottles
Empty good enough to whistle into
Baggies
Lord knows what those held...
An addicts dessert maybe
Right next to the ghetto shave ice machine
Tables filled with ex cons drug addicts young and old
Criminals sit next to nearly as shady successfuls
Former addicts
Family on parole
In a half way home
Eating shave ice
From that ghetto ol shave ice machine
Jimmy rigged to who's truck?
Best not be mine
On the beach
And yet
They are my loving family
Crazy and dysfunctional
Addicted and committed
Free and responsible
Some free
But irresponsible
I walk with a baby
They automatically assume its mine
Forget my age
Say oh it has your eyes
That same brown we all have the same
But it ain't mine
As it eats shave ice from
That same ol Jimmy rigged shave ice machine
I have dreams
Of bigger things
The pros
But I will never forget
My keiki days
And that same ol Jimmy rigged shave ice machine
