Blind, seeing, lost or found?
Mom, who am I?
you are Michelle, she says
Sister, who am I?
you are Chello, she says
Friend, who am I?
you are Chelly, she says
Self, who am I?
I am Michelle, Chello, Chelly
among many other names
but take away language
take away voices
take away communications
WHO AM I?
a lover of natural beauty?
a pianist who rarely plays?
a good catholic who goes to church every week?
a friend to few?
an empty carcass to many?
a lover of languages?
an observer?
music
music
music
But why?
I look in the mirror
I see
blonde hair
blue eyes
thin lips
small nose
cheeks like tomatoes
no makeup
waxed eyebrows
but am I really seeing?
the face if foreign
an alien. an impostor.
Or is it who I am?
you are Michelle, she says
Sister, who am I?
you are Chello, she says
Friend, who am I?
you are Chelly, she says
Self, who am I?
I am Michelle, Chello, Chelly
among many other names
but take away language
take away voices
