A Simple Plea

Tonight you dozed off with me
Wrapped up in our cozy fantasy
I cannot stop staring, wanting, dreaming
I must look like I have stars in my eyes.

The weight of your world seems to push down
A world I have barely set foot in
Yet already I want to rush to you and say
Please, come here. Let me help you bear your crown.

Not because you need my help
Not because of any reason, save this one:
I take such delight in your company
that it hardly seems any effort at all.

Already your chisel has been hard at work
Already your name is etched in that place
Where only those are named
Who have been allowed to destroy me.

Let’s lay tenderly under the endless stars
Let’s laugh and kiss and lose ourselves
Let’s shine with such reckless abandon
That the stars think us one of them.
