Love, a Vanishing Mirage

I have chased love like a wayward star,
Only to find it flickering from afar.
A shimmering glow, a whispered dream,
But never the haven it once had seemed.

I poured my soul into hands untrue,
Sculpted castles in skies so blue.
Yet each foundation, cracked and worn,
Left me adrift, tattered, and torn.

They spoke in tongues of forever’s embrace,
Yet behind soft words lay a hollow space.
A lover, an imposter, a master of disguise,
Leaving me drowning in echoed goodbyes.

I stitched my heart with fragile thread,
But promises frayed, and the seams bled.
Love became a ghost I could not touch,
A fleeting shadow I craved too much.

So now I turn away, close the door,
Seek not love, not anymore.
No longer a beggar at affection’s feet,
No longer entranced by a love’s deceit.

I'll weave my world in my own design,
Drink from the cup of peace, divine.
No longer will love define my worth,
For I am whole, as I walk this earth.

Yet if love dares to find me anew,
Let it come when the sky is blue.
Not as a tempest, fierce and wild,
But as a whisper, soft and mild.

Let it find me where the waters are still,
Where time moves slow, and hearts can heal.
Then, and only then, with arms unchained,
I'll let love in—unscarred, unfeigned.
