My Earliest Memories

Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, Nigeria
Friday, January 19, 1990, Late Evening

A baby boy was born after hours of intense labor. The medical team assigned male at birth.

My earliest memories
Are still listed among the most unsolved chronicles
Immediately after mum put to bed
Even before the midwife reaches for me
I stood up and walked with a waddle
So exhausted I placed my back on the wall of the room at an angle
Medical personnel in the room were all
Gobsmacked, shocked or brain dead!
All eyes on me, and I stared back at them
With this accurate vision of an eagle
To my 3'oclock is a tray and I reached out to get a scalpel..

Yelling at the top of my lungs
In the first few words I ever uttered

Mama!
Pls let me get back inside your womb
Ma!
Don't let me get involved
Out here in this world is chilling and so cold..

Only some minutes old into the world, I got all these abilities..
Alas!
The callous doctor only acknowledged my abnormalities

I heard her reporting saying;
"In view of the fact that
This baby is disable and undesirable
All his living cells are sickles
His auricles served as his ventricles
And the ventricles functioned as his auricles
His aorta...   My yell of protest interrupted..

Mama!
Pls let me back inside your womb
Ma!
Don't let me get involved
I'm far more dangerous than all the people out there making and dropping nuclear bombs..

Everyone in the labor room had these looks on their faces that scream
Unbelievable!
Me addressing the room
"Am neither a joke nor a riddle
Why the hell are you staring at my umbilical cord?
I am gonna sail where so many people failed..
