To Those Whose Poems I have Been Fortunate To Read
Indeed there are some wonderful people
Who grace me with their words here
Some may make me uncomfortable
I may even shed a tear
Laughter comes from some reading
Deep thoughts may be evoked
And even though I don't use chronic
Some make me want to toke
A couple write symphonies
The way they place meter and rhymes
Another leaves me in awe
For all the hills she had to climb
Then there are the sensualist
Who make me wish a partner was near
Somewhere to focus my own longings
Hoping that my conscience is clear
So this a little "thank you"
For those writers here at DU
You admiration and respect
For making art as you wonderfully do!

You are welcome; I must admit however that the fictional and nonfictional prose categories are a challenge. I prefer longer worded works in paper/book form. Reading that on a computer screen just doesn't cut it for me. So if you do write some of that type of work, don't look for my comments!

I think it may also have to do with the subject! I have a growing library of political biographies, but if I had to read them on my computer, the affinity would die a quick death.
But I would truly be saddened to think that you shortened something you wrote because I have the attention span of a gnat!

No and with your command of words you could probably write more!
I just can't see myself reading 500 words based on Will's famous line, "To Be Or Not To Be"...

. . .thank you as you are an exceptional poet particularly with the political aspect. Always great insight not to mention your raw perception:)

Me thinks the kind lady has me confused with someone else! Mom would say I started early with the politics, being push around in a stroller while she supported the United Farm Workers. Or maybe just the fact that I studied political science as an undergrad. before figuring out education was my calling.
At any rate, I thank you for your comments...maybe someday I will be worth of them.

I enjoyed this as I feel much the same and it is little shared directly, how much poetry can affect one's life, be it to leave them in wonder or blame, love /hate, gratitude/disgrace, home/displace....The courses I have taken to learn have not been from schools or school books, I learned direct from the hearts of the quills...
I am far from a perfect writer but to me I write perfectly from my heart...
I found this poem honestly written from the heart, a display of what it is I need to remember to forever keep me writing...
That one day here or there, my words touch another... To me this is what writing is all about... Ty lovely read

Wow, I don't know how to reply to such a beautifully worded comment. I do agree at least in my profession, I did learn a bit in graduate school, but a very little in undergraduate that would ever outweigh the knowledge gained just by living.
My humble opinion is that every poem can be a learning tool. (May even suggest how you don't want to write)
Thanks for the very thoughtful and generous words!

Thank you! I found it very hard to write about one person without trying to put everyone in, so I was going for something more general.

I really appreciate this poem. It is an honor to be recognized by such a great, honest poet such as yourself. :)

Thanks Glenn but I must say I have never seen myself as a poet; more like a poet in training.
Thank you for taking a minute to read what I wrote.

Dang. Just thinking of the quality of your words has made me feel inferior to you. Teach me, Sensei. I have much to learn, and you have much to teach.
Of course, life will never leave our curiosity satisfied for long, but ease mine for as long as you can.
(In other words, I think that you are a master poet, and I would very much like any critique you have for my own poems. I think we would make great friends considering our shared curiosity.)

While I actually like pieces of the Sith Legends,(smile) I am not sure I have anything to teach. To me a creative art like composing a poem is so much about the individual. Also I hardly think of myself as a master poet. Just a student like many who tries to write something that isn't totally useless.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you on this comment... but anyways, no writing is completely useless. Take for instance my own example. One day, on the back of a test in French class, I wrote simply, "Word of the day: gargleblechenschmire." How, you might ask, is this not entirely useless? Well, from that, my French teacher learned something: that I find humor in making up my own words. Even something as simple as that wasn't entirely pointless.

Okay then let me revise the point I was trying to make. I hardly call myself a master of the art form. I just try to come up with something that is GENUINE.
