Wishbone Pier (a love lost)
I pondered life one starry night,
and the lights above seemed not so bright.
I chipped away at a painted sill
when a shooting star left me a chill.
Layered paint from stories told,
fell as kids grew young to old.
I touched the scars from families past
and felt a nudge from strength they cast.
Through troubled times and all their best
they knew and whispered my unrest;
“The journey we all know and love,
comes with grace from high above.
A simple plan helped us to grow,
as those before us watched the show.”
I touched the glass and thought to try.
When, what, and where, were asking, why.
Why no tears would come to cry.
I had no Will to say goodbye.
The world looked so darn big that night,
as every star showed off its light,
to those on earth who shared a dream,
and wished upon their brilliant gleam.
I smirked a glance at our old truck
where we retired my dumb luck.
The luck we promised not to tell,
with pennies tossed in that old well.
I grabbed the keys and just one beer
and headed straight for Wishbone Pier.
The pier that creaked to our first dance,
and I made that move that ripped my pants.
Now, you might have a different plan,
with a canyon view from a rusted van.
Or city lights that just won’t stop,
from a concrete, man-made, mountain top.
It’s . . .
The place where thoughts were young and strong,
and hope played out in rifts of song.
Where lines were cast for love’s first bite,
with youthful gaze and appetite.
To share a life on a comet's tail,
weather seas and hard cold hail.
Cozy in for winter cold
when time slows down and turns you old.
Waking fear with true romance,
for just one moments sunrise dance.
The dance with those who seem so near,
tied with dreams to Wishbone Pier.
So, we may know they fought the fight,
to whisper fragrant hope so bright,
while gazing toward their twinkling light.
And I heard her fragrant voice that night,
and she
cast her Will in Will to Fight;
“The journey we knew how to love,
came with grace from high above.
A simple plan will help you grow,
as I look down and watch the show.”
