mental overdrive

 
silence is a mythical creature
Pegasus in flight on a starry night
clouds always obscuring it from my sight
{& all that romantic crap}
such beasts rarely descend into my chaotic realm
sleep is a wildscape of dreaming
wakefulness a cacophony
it's been...a few sleepless darks...& counting
eyes open but unseeing
desperate for respite
as words...questions...memories
rattle around the birdcage of my mind
dust kicked up by their turbulent beating
& I struggle to focus on breathing
not as easy as you'd think
...for someone like me
lungs aching
as thoughts...
solidify & shift
taking on the shape & weight of bricks
slowly walling me in
